Our Wildflower Seed Giveaway!

Arcata Artisans is giving away free wildflower seeds this month to celebrate Spring. Some of you have asked what seeds are in the mixture so here is the list. If you want to learn more you can go to the site: www.americanmeadows.com

This premium mixture is blended to take advantage of the wet coastal climate of this region, which is a natural garden for wildflowers. Many of the Pacific coast natives are included such as chinese houses, farewell-to-spring, and California poppy. Plant almost anytime along the coast; at higher elevations, after spring frost. This mixture contains 29 wildflowers, 17 annuals for first-year color, plus 12 perennials or biennials for second and successive years' bloom. See full flower list below.

What is it to be an Artist and Make Art; What is Art and How Does it Fit Into Our Lives?

This is an open dialogue. Arcata Artisans showcases 30 different artist members, each having a unique view of art. Some of us think of art as "pure" & elevated, some of see art primarily as a profession, a way to make a living, some of us just enjoy making art & see its function as
connecting us to the world & integrating us into the community. These different views of art are all valid & inform our individual opinions about how we'd like to see our co-op function. Maybe each of us could write a paragraph or so on how we view art & we could collate it into a little book. Perhaps our friends and customers, or rather collectors will even want to weigh in on the subject.

Benefit Auctions in Humboldt County, California

Yearly Calendar of Nonprofit/Benefit Auctions and Art Events that Artists can Donate to:

Arcata Artisans is compiling a list of nonprofit/benefit auctions in Humboldt County. Some of the auctions are on a one-time only basis and others are yearly events. As information comes in we will be able to arrange it accordingly. A list of auctions will be helpful to artists as well as event planners to determine giving, deadlines, and event dates.

Arcata Artisans Cooperative members will each select choices and the top eight receiving the most votes will be awarded with a fifty dollar gift certificate from the coop. This will be a yearly process. We are reserving spaces for additional choices should a new benefit arise that the coop members want to include in the yearly giving plan. The plan includes the option of a total of 12 awards yearly.
