What is it to be an Artist and Make Art; What is Art and How Does it Fit Into Our Lives?

This is an open dialogue. Arcata Artisans showcases 30 different artist members, each having a unique view of art. Some of us think of art as "pure" & elevated, some of see art primarily as a profession, a way to make a living, some of us just enjoy making art & see its function as
connecting us to the world & integrating us into the community. These different views of art are all valid & inform our individual opinions about how we'd like to see our co-op function. Maybe each of us could write a paragraph or so on how we view art & we could collate it into a little book. Perhaps our friends and customers, or rather collectors will even want to weigh in on the subject.

Artisans Giving Back to Community
Arcata Artisans announces awardees of its
2009 Annual Giving Program. "The program was
implemented as a way to give back to the community which
has supported us in so many ways and helped us
grow and thrive since we opened in June of 2003,"
says Mike Edwards, chairman of the Arcata Artisans
Cooperative. "Many of our 28 artist
members also donate their art work as
individuals to the numerous art auctions in Humboldt
County every year."
For 2009 the following organizations shall receive $50. gift
certificates from Arcata Artisans to use in their auction
fundraisers. To be considered for the next round of
funding send an email with the details of your annual
event to contact@arcataartisans.com
We will list your event on our Auction Calendar
at this blog space.
At this time we plan for the funding to be a yearly
event with the deadline for submission November 15
